Welcome to the Lightfoot family. The Smile Machine arrives fully assembled. This guide takes you from box to first ride in about 15 minutes. For everything else, see the full Owner's Manual.

Two motors, one in each wheel, pulling together up the hills. A UL-certified battery. A 2000-lumen headlight, motion-activated tail light, waterproof 2.8″ touchscreen, and a body-integrated solar panel, so short daily trips can run on sunshine alone.
Your first ride, in ten steps
One thing per step. Follow the pictures and you can't go wrong.
Get it out of the box (a second pair of hands helps). Check for shipping damage; photograph anything significant and let us know. Keep the packaging until you're sure everything checks out.
Feel for the kickstand with your foot. Press it down and forward while pulling back on the scooter with moderate force until it clicks into place. To release later: push the scooter forward and tap the kickstand up with your foot.
Open the cargo bay. Your keys are taped to the front bulkhead, inside. Peel them off. Photograph the key code number now. It's how you order a replacement if a key is ever lost.
Lift the rubber mat on the cargo floor and remove the black rubber plug at the left rear. Underneath is the battery. Press its button all the way in until the blue light comes on. Put the plug and mat back.
The Smile Machine ships at about 30% charge. Park it in the sun, or plug into any standard wall outlet. The charger lives onboard, behind the little door at the tail. Wall charging takes about 90 minutes to reach 50%, or 3 hours to reach 80%.
They may have softened in shipping. Give each a squeeze. If they don't feel firm, inflate to 36 PSI.
Hold the On/Off button (upper right of the left handlebar pad) for three seconds. The display wakes up and shows the security-code screen.
Press the Light button on the left pad to move left-to-right across the numbers. The default code 1234 is pre-selected. Once you've stepped across all four, the scooter unlocks. Change the code soon!
Take the keys out of the cargo lock and put them in your pocket. Buckle your helmet. Safety first: see the warning below.
The right-hand throttle twists back toward you: smooth acceleration, quick response. When you let off, regenerative braking gently slows you down while topping up the battery. That's not a fault; that's free electricity.
Always remove the cargo-lock keys before riding. Keys left in the lock can cause injury in a crash. Pocket them or clip one to a keychain. Never ride with them in the lock.

A 45-liter lockable, weatherproof trunk. Pack more, worry less.
Park smart, keep it yours
The Smile Machine parks anywhere bikes go. Because everyone wants one, lock it like you mean it.
Parking
- Use bike racks. The Smile Machine fits right in.
- Pick flat ground and deploy the kickstand fully before stepping off.
- Be courteous on sidewalks; don't block pathways.
Theft deterrence
- Change the security code: random but memorable. Not 1-2-3-4!
- Run a quality mini U-lock through the wheel.
- Park in well-lit, high-traffic spots.
