What the warranty doesn’t cover

We stand behind everything we build, but the warranty has limits. It does not cover the following, and claims may be voided or not honored in these situations:

  • Components limited to 1-year warranty coverage, beyond that first year.
  • Normal wear and tear on non-durable components — tires, tubes, grips, and brake pads — which are subject to routine periodic replacement based on usage. Non-durable items usually have a lifespan of a few months up to three years.
  • Routine maintenance as described in the User Manual schedule. If recommended maintenance is not performed in accordance with the User Manual, the warranty may be voided.
  • Any damage or loss of performance due to user modifications, including hardware or software alterations or conversions not specifically approved by the manufacturer.
  • Any failure or malfunction of accessories not manufactured, assembled, or installed by Lightfoot Electric Inc. or a certified repair facility or individual, including, but not limited to, motors, tires, wheels, and batteries.
  • Battery damage or reduced efficiency resulting from power surges, use of an improper charger, improper maintenance, tampering, or other such misuse, normal wear, or water damage.
  • Any reimbursement for damage from road hazards, towing, loss of time, loss of use, inconvenience, incidental, or consequential damages.
  • Damage due to weather-related water, wind, or other Acts of God. You are responsible for storage and protection of your Lightfoot from weather hazards.
  • Minor surface blemishes, rips, tears, flat tires, or other cosmetic damage due to normal or other use, or other intentional or unintentional damage, unless present prior to your initial inspection and use.
  • Damage due to the application of improper cleaners, solvents, or chemicals; water damage; smoke or soot; or damage from exposure to saltwater or sea breeze.
  • Normal aging, such as fading of paint, deterioration of rubber or plastics, rusting, or natural corrosion, including screws, nuts, and bolts.
  • Damage due to improper operation, repair, or misdiagnosis of problems by the user or a non-certified technician.
  • Damage or reimbursement for loss (including items in the cargo area) due to Acts of God, vandalism, theft, misuse, disuse, neglect, or use other than as specified in the User Manual, or use under abnormal conditions — including exceeding the maximum of 2 riders or 400 lb / 180 kg combined rider and storage weight, speeding, off-roading, driving recklessly or in unauthorized areas, attempting to jump curbs, or other high-risk usage.
  • Reimbursement of shipping and packaging costs if you elect to return the Lightfoot without prior approval from us, for any reason, including buyer’s remorse.
  • Reimbursement for repair or maintenance costs, including parts and labor, without prior notification and approval from us.
  • Components not purchased through Lightfoot Electric Inc. Use of non-OEM parts may impact the Lightfoot’s operation and void the product warranty completely.
  • Replacement of a lost, towed, destroyed, or stolen Lightfoot.
  • Any Lightfoot improperly transferred to a new owner without following our warranty transfer process.
  • Products used for commercial, high-volume, or high-mileage usage, such as rentals, which see substantial wear-and-tear exposure.
  • Any warranty claim for a Lightfoot located outside of the continental United States.

Shipping & delivery

Lightfoot ships ready to ride, out of the box. Delivery is included in the $4,495 beta launch price. Otherwise, a $350 flat fee applies unless discounted or otherwise noted. Due to its size, you may be asked to schedule a delivery appointment, and we recommend two people to lift the box. You are responsible for making sure the product can be delivered to your location and for securing it on arrival.

When your order arrives, inspect the exterior box right away. If the packaging appears damaged, note the damage on the proof-of-delivery slip and photograph it before opening. Claims for damaged goods must be presented to the carrier within 24 hours of receipt, so tell us immediately — we can’t be held responsible for visible shipment damage reported later than that.

Once opened, inspect the scooter for visible physical damage and take it for a test ride within 3 business days — we can’t accept claims for physical damage after that window. If something doesn’t operate as described, check the troubleshooting procedures in the User Manual, then contact us via phone, chat, or email. We’ll process any insurance or warranty claims on your behalf and work with you to repair or replace your order.

One tip: if space allows, keep the packaging. Specialized packaging is required to ship a Lightfoot, and you’ll be responsible for the cost of it if yours is ever returned or re-sold.

Warranty claims & returns

We hope you enjoy riding Lightfoot — but if it didn’t live up to your expectations, we want to hear your concerns and remedy them fairly and quickly. Warranty claims and returns follow a similar process. To submit a claim or request a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA), you’ll need:

  • Your last name, address, phone number, and email
  • Order number, purchase date, and serial number
  • The reason for the claim or return, with photos where helpful

To qualify for an RMA:

  • The product must be unused — or if used, in the same condition in which it was received.
  • It must be returned in the same packaging, with all original documentation, accessories, and included items.
  • The return must be initiated within 30 calendar days of receipt.
  • Returns may not be initiated or shipped from addresses outside the continental US.

A customer service representative will review your submission and either authorize the shipment or request more information within 5 business days. If a warranty claim is validated, we’ll repair or replace the non-functional components within 2 weeks of the claim submission. One important note: a Lightfoot is an oversized shipping item and returning one costs several hundred dollars, so you must receive approval through the RMA process before shipping anything back to us.

Cancellations & refunds

You may cancel your order for a full refund any time before it ships from Lightfoot Works — the shop where we assemble each Lightfoot. Shipping from Lightfoot Works takes around 30 days. If you cancel within 30 days of shipment — and before it arrives at Lightfoot’s US depot, whichever comes first — you’ll be refunded your purchase cost minus a 2% restocking fee (excluding taxes and shipping) to cover warehouse storage.

If you cancel more than 30 days after the shipment date from Lightfoot Works, or return a delivered Lightfoot within 30 days of receipt for a reason other than documented damage, you’ll be refunded your purchase price minus the return shipping fees to our designated US address with our designated carrier — typically $300–$500. All refunds are issued to the payment method used for the original purchase.

The buyback guarantee

We stand behind everything we make. If your item has a manufacturing defect in materials or workmanship, you can return it for repair, replacement, or refund at any time with proof of purchase.

Damage due to wear and tear, improper use, or accidents will be repaired for a reasonable charge, and a restocking fee may apply to buybacks and returns.

After the initial 30-day return window, we’ll still buy back your vehicle when you’re ready to trade it in. We’ll make a fair offer for your model based on the scooter’s mileage and market factors like demand, seasonality, and our own reconditioning costs — so a future owner can enjoy the Lightfoot in perfect condition.
